Why Non-Alcoholic Drinks Are Better For Your Health Than Red Wine

Making the decision to remove or reduce alcohol is always going to be good for your mental and physical health. So if you are reading this and have made that decision, you are giving your body one big hug already.
An article in the paper recently debunked about the myth of ‘red wine is good for your heart’.

Historically, red wine has been thought of as heart healthy given the antioxidants which may help prevent coronary artery disease and ultimately heart attacks. However, with many antioxidants in alcohol-free drinks, there are much healthier ways to support your heart health.

Antioxidants

These are substances that can prevent or slow cell damage caused by environmental and life pressures.

Drinks Rich in Antioxidants

Green Tea

Also rich in polyphenols, this can be drunk hot or in canned drinks that are made with the tea.

We recommend this simple serve. Green tea, water, honey and lime juice.

Matcha

Using the entire leaf of the tea plant, Matcha includes a much higher concentration of antioxidants. This has shown to protect against liver damage and decrease cancer cell growth. A small study also showed improvement in memory and attention.

We recommend this Matcha Cocktail. Lukewarm water, match tea, lemon mixer, crushed ice and a slice of lemon garnish.

Coffee

Research shows this may be one of the main sources of antioxidants and a study found drinking 3-4 cups per day may be associated with lower heart disease, live problems and certain types of cancer.

Our favourite is a CBD coffee by Cannacoffee.

Beet Juice

Beetroot is packed with antioxidants and have been linked to many health benefits such as reduced inflammation, improved heart health and decreased cancer cell growth.

We recommend trying a Beet Spritzer made with beet juice, honey syrup lemon juice, ginger beer, tonic water and an orange peel garnish.

Pomegranate Juice

Packed full there has been evidence to suggest they lower blood pressure and protect against the buildup of fatty plaque in the arteries.

We recommend trying Caleño’s Pom Picante.

Not only do we have these drinks that are wonderfully high in Antioxidants, but the non-alcoholic space are creating their drinks with health in mind. This means, low sugars, high quality ingredients and added benefits to add something more than just a damn tasty cocktail to your drinking experience.

Who are doing this?

GIMBER and Root2Ginger

Do we need to even go into these benefits? Ginger has been used for years for so many things including immune health, muscle support, blood pressure and heart disease and promotes healthy ageing.

Kombucha has taken a step into the spotlight for its health benefits including gut health. L.A Brewery have created a drink that is full of flavour (and not too tart) using flowers, citrus and hops.

Not only does it contain CBD which has scientifically backed benefits including improved sleep quality, anxiety and depression reduction and better skin, Edi also contains nootropics to boost your mood and help you unwind.

So, we have covered the health benefits showing you can contribute positively to your health by sipping away on your favourite non-alc cocktail, but what else are they good for?

Creating a ritual

When removing or reducing alcohol there is often a void. If you enjoyed a G&T before in your favourite glass, then pouring water out the tap into a pint glass doesn’t quite cut it..

Enjoying non-alcoholic drinks means you can have your favourite glass, ice, garnishes and enjoy the experience.

To feel included

If you aren’t drinking but others are, having a drink in your hand that looks just the same as everyone else doesn’t only make you feel included in the group, but also makes you feel included in the experience and flavour too.

Reduce unwanted questions

‘Are you not drinking - why?’ We’ve all been there - having a drink can reduce these and let people move onto other things.

0% chance of a hangover

Tomorrow you will be feeling fresh and productive, ready to take on the day

If you haven’t tried an alcohol-free spirit before, experience it for the first time with JOMO. We will guide you through the experience and include everything that is needed. You can also explore the bottle store for a starting point.

Happy sipping
