JOMO Club Scoops Bronze Business Award at Glittering Ceremony in London

Nine months into business, a membership growth of 310%, positioning themselves as thought-leaders to support normalising not drinking, JOMO Club pick up their first award this month at the Business Champion Awards.

JOMO Club, the UK’s alcohol-free spirit subscription box who were voted the best alcohol-free spirit subscription box by The Independent in their 1st 6 months attended the awards on the 23rd March, hosted by BBC TV news presented Huw Edwards.

With over 900 entrants, JOMO Club were put through to the final 8 in the ‘Best new Business of the Year’ Award alongside a mix of innovative businesses, many of which launched during lockdown. These included a drone company, an investment company and a marketing company.

JOMO Club won Bronze in the Best New Business of the Year Category walking home with an engraved trophy, a massive smile and even more motivation to drive the business forward.

Gemma Mills, Founder of JOMO Club said ‘We are completely honoured to have won our first award after setting up the business just 7 months ago. We have seen a significant growth toward Mindful Drinking and Sober Curiosity and are looking forward to leading that movement.’

‘The award was an honour, but the best part of the night was a lady and customer who hunted us down after the awards to tell us ‘we had changed her life during her sober journey. The recognition of an award is overwhelming, but to know we are really having an impact on peoples lives is why we started JOMO’

The event took place at The East Wintergarden in London’s Canary Wharf, two years to the day since Britain was placed into lockdown and business owners nationwide feared for their survival chances.

It was a carbon neutral event, and all suppliers had sustainable practices in place, while the awards process and carbon footprint from it was kept to a minimum by moving judges’ presentation days to online zoom calls. This move alone saved over 1,000 people travelling to London. As a company, awards organisers the Capital Business Media Group is carbon neutral; everything that can be moved online has been, and anything that’s needed to be printed has been done so on FSC protected recycled and recyclable paper stocks.

And to honour Her Majesty’s Jubilee campaign to plant more trees in 2022, each winner will have ten trees planted in its geographical region within the UK.
Richard Alvin, awards director, Business Champion Awards, said: ‘The last two years have been some of the toughest for many businesses and the courage, strategic nous and tenacity we have seen are some of the many reasons behind why these awards exist.

‘They are designed to celebrate the champions of British business in quite extraordinary times.’

‘Every business winner and shortlisted company demonstrated huge amounts of creativity and strength, and whether they went home with a gong or not, they should all be incredibly proud of their achievements.’

The awards are supported by a stellar judging panel that includes a range of UK business leaders including Phil Jones MBE, MD of Brother UK; Alex Robson, founder of Soho Gin, and Charlie Mullins OBE, who has just exited Pimlico Plumbers in a £150m deal.

Richard Alvin, awards director, Business Champion Awards, added: ‘In an unprecedented time for businesses, up and down the country, we've seen an incredible amount of resilience.
