JOMO Was Invited to SubX World

In May this year, JOMO was invited to attend an exclusive pre-event dinner, and then join for SubX World. This is an event created solely for businesses that run subscriptions. It was an honour to be invited. We were able to mingle with people running subscriptions from places like Pret a Manger, Grubby and Bike Club.

So, to show you the behind-the-scenes of JOMO, here is our SubX World experience and the lessons we learned.

What is SubX World?

SubX World is an industry-specific event for businesses that are part of the direct-to-consumer (D2C) subscription industry. On the main event day, there was a full programme of talks and panels from leaders in the subscription space.

Craft Gin, a huge inspiration for JOMO, ran a panel about how they grew their club into its current form. Hotel Chocolat and Hobby Craft talked about their new subscriptions, intended to make the shopping process easier for customers.

We were particularly inspired by a talk given by Birchbox. They have grown their boxes hugely, and in turn, made the entire experience better for their subscribers.

The day was filled with inspiring businesses running inspiring talks. It gave us at JOMO a lot to think about and work with in the future. After all, we want to deliver the best subscription that we possibly can.

The SubX Pre-Event Dinner?

Founder of JOMO, Gemma Mills, had the honour of being invited to a pre-event dinner at Balthazar in Covent Garden. JOMO was there with around 20 other subscription box pioneers. This included Craft Rum Club, Pret a Manger, Grubby, Bike Club, Beer52, Nespresso and Freddie’s Flowers.

This was a great way to meet people running subscriptions with similar themes in different sectors across the industry. We were able to discuss more casually the ins and outs of running a subscription box business.

So we ended up having fascinating and useful conversations. They were about everything from understanding audiences, to how other businesses run their subscription business. We could share our best practices and learn from people involved in businesses at all different stages and sizes.

What Did We Learn From SubX World?

Of course, the tasty food and inspiring conversation were great. But what does it all mean for JOMO? Well, we learnt a lot from both the pre-event dinner and the day event, so that we can keep improving our JOMO service.

Adding value in every possible sense is really important for all and any audience we have with JOMO. That means that the entire experience is crucial, not just the end product. It means the website, pre-order communication, all the way through to receiving the actual order, enjoying the contents of the box and repeating the process.

By encouraging people to share, post and talk about their JOMO experience the experience of ordering is enhanced. It becomes a more communal experience, and shared experiences are more enjoyable.

All in all the day helped us take a step back and remember that we as JOMO know our product more than anyone else. This is something that is easy to forget, so we can forget to add all the information that is really needed when you receive the box.

For instance, things like which garnish is intended to be used for which alcohol-free cocktail can easily be forgotten, or assumed that people know. But this needs to be communicated clearly. There are places where we can share our knowledge and expertise on alcohol-free drinks so that our subscribers can benefit and enjoy the alcohol-free drinks just that bit more!
