If you enjoy a game of golf, you may already be familiar with the Gunner Cocktail. For those who don’t, well we hope this is the first Gunner of many! Without further ado, we are going to let Gunner Cocktails do the talking on this one and let them introduce this cocktail to you.
Q: We were very excited to learn more about the history of Gunner Cocktails and can’t wait to introduce you to our members! Can we start by talking through what is in front of us today? Q: Your cocktails use the original 1800’s recipe. How did this cocktail originate, what’s the story? It was in fact created by the young men in Sub East Asia in Victorian times as they wanted something long and refreshing to combat the heat of the region, its known as the Original Hong Kong Cocktail
Q: What is your favourite setting and way to enjoy a Gunner? Oh, that’s hard!.... a Gunner is so good at anytime, but if we’re pushed for an answer, then ‘late afternoon sun, mid-summer, on the terrace with GREAT company!’
Q: When creating your drinks, was it important for you to keep all the ingredients natural without any preservatives? If so, why was that? Very important, there are so many preservatives and additives in drinks today, we really wanted all Gunner drinks to be all natural so our customers knew exactly what they are consuming, we even sourced a new special natural bitters as Angostura has an E-Number colouring in it
Q: What is your favourite alcohol-free cocktail using a Gunner? Simply a Gunner!!- it doesn’t need anything else, just ice, a wedge of lime and a good twizzle!! Though we have wonderful feedback from customers telling us that it’s great with many 0%ABV spirits, as well as traditional spirits if you partake of the odd tipple, our favourites are, rum, vodka, gin, ANON English Garden, oh and Tequilla, not all at once of course!!.... a Gunner Bomb has also been created!
Q: You also offer a Gunner on tap! Where can we find these and why was it important for you to offer this? A Gunner is well known in the golfing sector, as that ‘must have’ first drink in the 19th (the Clubhouse) so it made sense for us to create a draught version to supply those venues
Q: Founder Giles Fuchs. Why the Gunner? Why was this the thing he wanted to bring to the world? Giles grew up playing tennis and sailing and always had a Gunner to drink afterwards. Then after many a corporate golf day, he was fed up having to continually wait for the barman to mix 10 Gunners, and also frustratingly, wherever he played two Gunners were never the same. Ever the entrepreneur, Giles knew there was a gap in the market for a ready to drink version, so here we are, the rest as they say is history! Giles is very successful, but swears Gunner is his legacy.
Q: Have you seen attitudes to alcohol-free drinks change since your launch? If so, in what way? Absolutely, Gunner is a grown-up non-alcoholic drink, with a kick, and we found right from the start that venues were screaming for good non-alcoholic options to add to their drinks menus, and I think I can safely say we’re all fed up of a soda & lime, and some of us wouldn’t touch a post mix coke in a month of Sundays!
The sector is still growing exponentially, and we’ve seen a massive shift, especially since the pandemic, in the desire to not drink alcohol, rather than having to have a non-alcoholic something because you’re driving.
Consumers are far more aware of making positive lifestyle choices and what options that are there for them to make alternative choices. Being your best self is definitely the new hangover!!
