The alcohol-free spirit of Scotland

I have a deep connection to Scotland. My memory, clear as day, is hearing the ice crackle as my grandad poured his whisky topped up with water. Something he did probably most days. My mum was born and raised in Scotland and a lot of our family are still there.

When I came across Feragaia, Scotland’s distilled alcohol-free spirit, I was intrigued and keen to learn more. Scotland has a rich drinks heritage and an ever growing community interested in mindful drinking and sobriety. Being able to bring together this heritage to a new age is inspiring.

So, what is Feragaia all about?

In our opinion, Feragaia is like nothing we have ever tasted. In their words ‘it is made for the adventurous, for new journeys and experiences worth remembering. It is an amber-hued, original expression that is not trying to be anything but itself’

Feragaia blend centuries of Scottish know-how to create this incredible spirit, while being rooted in Fife and the surrounding areas, from the team, suppliers and even the botanicals handpicked by their founders and foragers.

What is in the bottle is unknown, fairly mysterious and we quite like that. What we do know is it is distilled from 14 land and sea botanicals in a pot still that takes over two months to make. This process and the time taken extracts the flavours which are then blended, cut with Scottish water and rested to achieve Feragaia’s distinct and flavour that is full of character.

Gentleman’s Journal said, “The result is unique - not a whisky nor a faux gin” and The Guardian said. “It is an undeniably curious drink”.

When asking Co-founder Jamie Wild, how Feragaia has been enjoyed in Scotland he shares, ‘It has been fantastic! Contrary to the stereotypes people have about Scotland and drinking, we have only been encouraged and supported from the moment we launched. Scotland is our biggest market and this was always our ambition for launch as provenance and community is an essential pillar of our business’.

JOMO Club paired Feragaia with Bermondsey Mixers. Tonic for a ‘Wild Serve’ and Grapefruit Tonic for  the Cocktail of the Month ‘Paloma’. We also included Gingerella for the ‘Earth Serve’ and Nuisance Drinks’ Nettle Soda, also based in Scotland, for the ‘Highland Serve’.

It was an experience to be savoured.

Feragaia’s versatility means you can drink it neat over ice, pair with tonic or strong mixers such as ginger ale or mix in cocktails while the spirit still cuts through.
