Why Enjoy an Alcohol-Free Cocktail on the Go?

Did you know the ‘ready to drink cocktails’ market size was valued at USD 782.8 million in 2021 with low alcohol options set to drive the growth.

Before the pandemic, demand for ready to drink cocktails was on the rise, however the interest in at-home cocktail culture has skyrocketed, coupled with increased concerns for health, convenience and the enhanced taste and quality of the options available.

We love making cocktails, believe us we do it every day to share with you lovely lot, but there is absolutely a time and a place when we want a guaranteed delicious cocktail without the effort, time and ingredients. Following feedback, we know our members feel the same.

That’s why we at JOMO Club include a drink each month that can be poured straight from the can or bottle into a glass (or your mouth.)

March’s JOMO Box included the wonderful Mojito from Highball Cocktails’ range. Containing half the calories of a standard cocktail, free from artificial sweeteners and free from preservatives, Highball Cocktails are a bar trolley essential.

The bit we love the most is they aren’t overly sweet.

Red and Kate Johnson Founded Highball Cocktails and were looking for alternatives to their favourite cocktails, minus the alcohol. With convenience, flavour and social occasions being at the forefront, they were on a quest to make sure they could create something unique and a drink that answered these crucial points.

As they already created alcohol-free cocktails at home, they decided to develop a small range of their favourites - and from that day Highball Cocktails was born - we are now lucky enough to be part of that journey.

Not only are Highball Cocktails alcohol-free, but they also use natural ingredients from around the world and hand-crafted in small batches in the UK. They contain less than half the calories of a standard cocktail and are free from artificial ingredients, sweeteners and preservatives.

When JOMO members received the March Box, we received an email immediately saying ‘Definitely my fave so far!’ You can’t argue with that.

We spoke with Kate about why so many ‘mocktails’ hit you with a sugar buzz. ‘We knew at the outset ours absolutely couldn’t be sugary and sweet. We wanted to create great-tasting alcohol-free drinks that were healthier than their alcoholic counterparts, so loading them with sugar to fix the taste was not the solution! One thing that did really help is my husband Red had grown up in the drinks industry. His father is Hugh Johnson, the world’s best-selling wine writer, so Red has been tasting drinks and learning about complex flavour profiles for most of his life!’

Kate also let us know she has seen a shift demonstrating moderation and sobriety to be more acceptable and less unusual, especially in the younger generation who are aware of wellness trends in general.

‘It is up to brands like Highball Cocktails to prove that non-alcoholic drinks can be just as beautiful, sophisticated, tasty and enjoyable so there is no sense of missing out without alcohol’.

If you didn’t get to taste the gorgeous flavours of Highball this month (or indeed if you did and can’t get enough) you can visit their website at highballcocktails.com and follow their journey @highballdrinks. As you are reading this piece and all the way to the end, you can also claim your 15% off the range using ‘JOMO2022’!

Enjoy your Highball moment.
