Key Benefits of Drinking Kombucha

As we continue to discover alternatives to alcohol, we realise not only are we removing the alcohol from our drink, but we are also now able to feed our bodies and minds with drinks that include important nutrients, vitamins, minerals and ingredients.

One drink that has stood in the spotlight for its incredible benefits in recent years is Kombucha - a naturally fermented tea drink made from adding a culture of bacteria and yeast to tea sweetened with sugar. It is then left to ferment in a warm spot for 7-14 days.

Kombucha supports overall health through improved digestion, strengthened immune system and detoxification. The gut is sensitive and can be disrupted by stress, hormones, pollution, antibiotics and toxins. Drinking kombucha on a regular daily basis contributes to a healthy microbiome by feeding the gut with friendly bacteria which replenishes the friendly microbes. Simple.

So, as we welcomed Spring (with massive open arms - who else was done with Winter?) JOMO members got to experience L.A Brewery’s Citrus Hops Kombucha in the March JOMO Box.

L.A Brewery usually start with a crisp fresh kombucha and infuse it with flowers, fruits or botanicals. Founder Louise Avery launched her drinks by experimenting in the kitchen. ‘I still take a lot of inspiration from the garden, which means finding seasonal plants by extracting and fermenting and combining with my home-brewed kombucha to find out what works before taking them to the brewery’.

Louise shares she has always loved infused kombucha with flowers and she feels it lifts the crisp acidity of the kombucha.

So, where do we start? Well, it depends on your taste as L.A. Brewery have you covered. The Citrus Hops is delicious straight from the bottle or a short glass with a few cubes of ice. It can also be paired with 50ml Brunswick Aces to make JOMO’s March Cocktail of the Month ‘Ace of Spades’ or paired with a bittersweet non-alcoholic spirit such as Wilfred’s aperitif recommended by Louise Avery herself.

If you enjoy a sparkling wine, check out the beautiful Sparkling English Rose and Blush Kombucha. ‘Our Sparkling range was inspired by the rich heritage of English sparkling wine and summer’s rosé and seasonal fresh flowers’. The Sparkling English Rose is infused with organic white rose petals and elderflower. A zesty acidity balances floral notes with a dry finish, reminiscent of wildflower Champagne. The Sparkling English Blush combines floral hops and elderflower with rhubarb, strawberry and peach. Notes of soft fruits and flowers, a bright crisp acidity and a long finish.

If you’re a fan of more traditional kombucha, L.A Brewery’s original range include ‘Strawberry & Black Pepper Kombucha’, ‘Lemongrass Kombucha’ or ‘Ginger Kombucha’.

Kombucha holds a unique flavour profile and is quite complex which holds itself wonderfully to an alternative to alcohol. If you’ve never tried it before, give it a go, its benefits alongside its taste might just change the drinking game for you.

You can experience L.A Brewery for yourself today with 15% off their website using ‘JOMO15’! Make sure you also follow their journey @labrewery for kombucha inspiration.
