7 Halloween themed mocktails to enjoy this spooky season

Written by Kathryn Stone.

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about what you are going to drink to celebrate the spooky season. Whether you are looking for easy Halloween mocktails or scary alcohol free cocktails, we all know the importance of dressing up the drinks at Halloween.

So here are 7 of the best Halloween mocktails to try out this year:

1. Pumpkin Pie Shot

The first thing that comes to mind at Halloween has to be pumpkins. So why not serve this heartwarming pumpkin pie shot?

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbs Pumpkin Puree

  • 50 ml Alcohol free dark rum (we enjoy Myth Drinks, Caleño, Rum-ish and Lyre’s)

  • 15 ml Gimber (ginger concentrate)

  • 2 tsp Brown sugar

  • 15 ml Single Cream

  • Vanilla & pumpkin spices to flavour (Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove)

Method:

  1. Add all your ingredients to a cocktail shaker with some ice. Cover and shake until mixed. Then pour into shot glasses or, to get the cocktail experience, pour into a martini glass.

  2. You can choose to make this thicker or thinner depending on your preference. If you choose to serve a thicker version why not serve it with a spoon for the novelty?!

2. Bloody Sangria Punch

If you are more into a gory, blood-filled Halloween, then this blood red sangria punch is right up your alley.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of an alcohol free red wine of your choice (we enjoy OddBird, Noughty Rouge or Nine Elms)

  • 60 ml non-alcoholic brandy (we enjoy Lyre’s Highland Malt, Feragaia which you can buy here or Crossip Dandy Smoke which you can buy here.)

  • Fizzy water

  • 475 ml pomegranate juice

  • Grenadine to flavour

  • 2 peeled oranges

  • As much fresh fruit of your choice as you want

  • Spooky sweets (optional as garnish)

Method:

  1. Pour the juice, alcohol free wine and non-alcoholic brandy into a pitcher.

  2. Cut your fruit and leave it in the pitcher. For a gory-looking cocktail try using pomegranate, blackberry and raspberry. Pear, orange and lemon are excellent choices to enhance the flavour of the drink but make sure to take the rind off the lemon and orange if you are leaving them to soak as they can start to turn bitter if left for too long.

  3. Leave to chill in the fridge for between 4 and 24 hours.

  4. Top with fizzy water and serve.

It's Halloween so you can really get creative with the way you serve it. You could serve it as a traditional punch or try serving it in a carved out pumpkin. To add a spooky flare add Halloween themed sweets such as teeth or eyeballs to the drink or drape gummy works over the side. To make your own fruity eyeballs, try using lychees and adding raisins into the centres.

3. Alcohol Free Butter Beer

Halloween is the holiday for witches and wizards. And what is a witch's favourite drink? Butterbeer of course! So here is an alcohol free butterbeer recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 100 ml Cream soda (we like Soda Folk or Rebelicious for a CBD cream soda)

  • 25 ml Alcohol free rum (we like Myth, Lyre’s or Clean Co)

  • 25 ml Alcohol free vanilla vodka (we like Strykk)

  • Whipping Cream

  • 2 tsp Butterscotch sauce

  • Cinnamon and nutmeg

Method:

  1. Add 1tsp of butterscotch sauce, the alcohol free rum and alcohol free vanilla vodka to the bottom of a tankard;

  2. Fill the rest of the tankard with cream soda;

  3. Whip your cream with cinnamon and nutmeg. Then add this to the top of your glass;

  4. Drizzle the rest of the butterscotch sauce over the top and enjoy!

4. Witches brew blackberry gin fizz

“Double double toil and trouble. Fire burn and cauldron bubble.” Put the fire on as it’s time to drink a witch's potion!

Ingredients:

  • 15 Blackberries

  • 50 ml Alcohol free gin (we like New London Light which you can buy here, Bax Botanics Verbena which you can buy here, Maria & Craig’s for a CBD twist which you can buy here and Pentire which you can buy here.

  • A drizzle of Grenadine

  • 25 ml Lemon

  • 2 tsp. Honey or agave syrup

  • Soda water

  • Mint

Method:

  1. One to two weeks before you want to serve this drink add some blackberries to your alcohol free gin, reseal it and leave it. This will infuse the non-alcoholic gin with blackberry flavour and turn the liquid purple.

  2. On the day, add mix the lemon juice, honey and more blackberries together. Strain out the blackberry pulp.

  3. Add ice, your alcohol free gin, and soda water to a glass. Top off with a thin layer of grenadine and some mint.

If you want to get really fancy, add some dry ice to the bottom of the glass and the glass will smoke, just like a real cauldron. If you do this, beware that you must not drink the dry ice, so wait for it to fully stop smoking before drinking.

5. Toffee apple

Toffee apples are a traditional Halloween treat, but they can be tricky to eat. But what if you could get the same flavours in a non-alcoholic cocktail? Well, you are in luck!

  • 25 ml Non-alcoholic vanilla vodka (we like Strykk with a drop of vanilla extract)

  • 1 tsp. Toffee sauce

  • 15 ml lemon juice

  • An apple slice

Method:

  2. Add ice, lemon juice and 0% cider to the shaker and gently shake.

  3. Drizzle toffee sauce around a glass and then pour the drink in. Add an apple slice as garnish and enjoy your toffee apple.
