Savour the Unexpected: EMILY Veg Crisps as Your Next Cocktail Garnish

Q: Welcome for the first time to JOMO! We are super excited to have you part of our Summer box. Can we start with an introduction to EMILY and the inspiration behind EMILY?

Thank you so much for having us we hope to be a nice addition to JOMO’s fantastically curated boxes! Since 2014, EMILY has turned real vegetables into bold, vibrant, crunchy snacks that break away from boring. The inspiration was wanting to create a healthy alternative to traditional crisps, giving consumers the option to make a healthier choice, but one that is also fun and delicious.

Q: Vegetable crisps. I actually have an incredibly vivid memory of being around 10 years old with my dad who gave me vegetable crisps for the first time ever from Burford Garden Centre. So thank you for bringing a taste of my childhood. What was the inspiration behind Emily’s vegetable crisps? Why veg over the traditional potato and why did you choose the vegetables you did?

I’m glad we could bring back some fond memories for you! At EMILY, we’re committed to creating products that focus on whole, natural ingredients without compromising on taste and Veg crisps seemed like the perfect fit. Through lots of testing, we found the trio of Sweet potato carrot and beetroot to be the best fit giving tasty variation to a market full of potato crisps. 

Q: Other than being delicious, are there any benefits to enjoying vegetable crisps over just potato crisps?

Our vegetable crisps are vacuum fried at a low temperature under high pressure, a method that locks in crunch and flavour while significantly reducing fat compared to traditional potato crisps. The result? A thicker cut, bold crunch, and a third less fat than other leading veg crisps, all while delivering the delicious taste you expect.

Q: What is your favourite way and setting to enjoy todays crisps?

It has to be a picnic in the park with friends; weather permitting! Picnics are always a great excuse to go over the top with the snack selection, and a pack of EMILY Veg Crisps are a must. They go great with all dips, are as colourful as the setting and definitely picnic basket-worthy!

Q: Can you tell us a bit about what is in the bag? You use real ingredients which is becoming ever at the forefront of all our minds. Why was this important when you created the EMILY range?

EMILY offer a completely natural snack which isn’t heavily processed or extruded, and you can see this by just by opening the pack. It’s a real passion point of the brand that we use whole and clean ingredients that people can easily understand. As you touched on, we’re all becoming more mindful when it comes to consumption so it’s important for us to lead with minimal ingredient snacks.

Q: You are also B Corp certified and give 1% of your revenue to good causes. What does this look like and why was this also important when developing and growing EMILY?

At our core, we believe great brands should have a positive impact on the world around them. That’s why we partnered with FareShare through 1% for the planet. FareShare tackles food waste and hunger by redistributing surplus food to frontline charities and community groups across the UK. As a B Corp and proud member of 1% for the Planet, we’re committed to driving sustainability and supporting those most in need.

Q: Have you ever used your crisps in a cocktail or in a recipe? Savoury cocktails are all the rage this year. Mozzarella and tomato cocktail we heard of this week.

We’ve also seen some really interesting savoury cocktails gain virality this year, notably the dirty blue cheese vodka martini! Unfortunately, we’ve only been having EMILY crisps as a side to our beverages of choice but if anyone fancies testing this out for us, do tag us on Instagram!

Q: As we are embracing all things coastal this month, can you also tell us about your seaweed crisps?

EMILY Seaweed Crisps embody the same bold, better-for-you values as Roots, using natural ingredients to create an exciting and wholesome snack. Made by layering tapioca over seaweed and shallow frying for the satisfying crunch of a traditional crisp. Gluten-free and vegan, they stand out in the category with four exciting flavours: Sea Salt, Sriracha (newest to the range), Salt & Vinegar, and vegan Cheese.

Q: What is your perfect Summer’s day?

The perfect summer’s day probably starts with a morning run while it’s still cool outside with all this nice weather we’ve been having! Nothing too intense, just enough to feel like a lazy afternoon has been earned. Then it’s straight into brunch with the girls (ideally somewhere with good coffee and better eggs), followed by a park to soak up the sun with a few snacks; EMILY Crisps obviously make an appearance. If the sun is out and there’s no rush to be anywhere, that’s pretty much my ideal day.
