Top Tips To Self-Care This Sober October | Decree Spotlight

To celebrate Sober October with almighty force, JOMO Club’s October box dropped a few days early to welcome Sober October in the right way. Along with heaps of alcohol-free drinks, garnishes, content and snacks, we wanted to make sure there was an element of Self Care in this box. Reducing or removing alcohol should be a joyful thing. We should be focusing on what can be gained instead of what has been removed.

To help with this, JOMO Club have partnered with Dr AJ Sturnham’s Decree for your daily dose of self-care. Showcasing Decree’s Daily Preparatory Mist, we speak with Dr AJ with some key tips and a spotlight into this product.

Spotlight on Decree

  • Decree cuts through the confusing skincare landscape by giving you an effective regime that is made up of a simple AM, PM and Weekly regime that you will love using.

  • It treats the fundamentals of your skin needs, through luxurious and effective products that provide your skin with what it needs, when it needs, so it is effective on all skin types ages and genders

  • Decree is a Doctor-led brand, created by Dr.Anita Sturnham who is a GP specialising in Dermatology with over 20 years of treating her patients skin.

Recommended product for daily skincare

We always say our Light Cleanse is a great entry point into Decree but our hero product for the day is our multi-tasking serum, the Protect Elixir. It's effectively 4 serums in 1 and is full of all the antioxidants and vitamins your skin needs to defend itself against daily aggressors. This is the only serum you need for the daytime.

3 top tips and non-negotiables in skincare:

  1. Always wear sunscreen

  2. Never use face wipes! Always take of a makeup with a micellar water and then use your cleanser.

  3. Industry trends we don't advocate- 1. double cleansing,  this can be striping to skin. Micellar water is needed to remove makeup but then your cleanser should be good enough with one wash. 2. Oil based products as part of a regime. If used consistently, these can swich off your skins natural oil production, in turn giving you dry skin. Our serums are 'no oil. oils', so they have a feel of an oil but use hdrating ingredients instead.

Recommended product for glow

Protect Elixir gives a lovely instant glow.

Our Preparatory Mist is becoming a cult product with MUA's for setting make up and reapplying over makeup, to give you a refreshed, natural glow. Your makeup won't budge all day either!

3 top tips to creating a natural glow

1. We are working with more and more makeup artists who are spending more time on skin prep than the makeup itself. They spend time massaging in our serum, utilising lymphatic drainage and they also are not shy with layering our Preparatory Mist.

2. Make sure you keep a good exfoliation regime to ensure skin cell turnover, our Weekly Decree is perfect for this and is needed just once a week.

3. Keep skin hydrated throughout the day, our Preparatory mist is perfect for this as it gives a fine spray of antioxidants and vitamins so can be reapplied at any time and gives you instant glow on the go!

“In 2014 I launched my own clinic, Nuriss Skincare and Wellness ltd in London. Before doing so, I had worked in the NHS, initially as a surgeon and I then moved into a role as a GP specialising in Dermatology, where I became interested in the powerful link between your internal health, in particular gut health and hormone balance, and skin health. I integrated this holistic approach into my clinical practice at Nuriss. I also launched my own in-house skincare line, Nuriss Skincare, at the same time. The years of using these products on my patients skin and observing the benefits of key active ingredients was a huge inspiration behind the Decree Skincare range. Juggling being the CEO of both Nuriss and Decree, as well as keeping up with my NHS work, has at times been difficult to balance but I am passionate about my work and that really is my drive, alongside the reward knowing that my brands help people to feel better and from a skin point of view, improve skin confidence. Being a female CEO naturally comes with its challenges, particularly as the brand grows. The subject of children has always been a difficult one and I can’t tell you the number of times I have felt under pressure to put business first and forget my dream of being a mother. Recently I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I worked throughout the pregnancy and was at work the day before she was born. I had to answer work emails in the delivery suite, it’s the nature of running your own business, it is 24/7. I feel blessed to be a mother and I don’t feel that it hinders my ability to lead a team and be a good CEO. If anything, it has made me more efficient with my time, more focussed and my creativity and excitement for the future is at an all time high. I have huge respect for women in business, the hurdles that many women face across all industries can be really shocking. For those mothers who work, I have full respect for them. It is a lot to juggle but worth every second.

Recommended product for the skincare obsessed

The Decree Treat Tincture. This was the product that launched Decree with India Knight writing a double page spread on how this product was the 'Holy Grail' of skincare. For those skincare obsessed they will appreciate the formulation of this product and how we have rolled the purpose of 5 serums into 1 effective product, which in itself means less chance of reaction or products degrading through layering. Treat Tincture brings through everything your skin needs for its 'rest and repair' evening phase, including a Granactive Retinoid that is highly effective but gentle enough that it can be used everyday. This is the only evening serum you will need, it feels beautiful and melts into your skin, saving you time for the rest of the evening and making your PM regime a pleasure to do each and every time.

Spotlight on Decree’s approach to sustainability

Sustainability has always been at the forefront for Decree and we are proud to say that all of our products have been reformulated to be Vegan, with just the Peptide Veil+ and Replenishing paste in our Weekly Decree to go into production.

We work with Provenance™ to provide transparency and certification on our sustainability claims, all of which can be found on the product page of our website.

We use minimal packaging with QR codes instead of leaflets and we never cellophane wrap.

We were also the first brand to launch a fully sustainable sheet mask into the UK, utilising Coconut fibres for the biocellulose sheet, Rose petal blossom for the outersheets instead of plastic and then Potato starch for the outer packaging. We have continued this through our whole SOS line.

Finally, we work with Handle, a company that recycles you empty packages for you so you can now drop your empties at our Handle drop bin in Nuriss clinic, Marylebone.
