How Does JOMO Select the Drinks in Our Alcohol-Free Subscription Box?

Well, we don’t work with just anyone, in fact, we choose the drinks that we share with you based on a few key characteristics. And that is what makes our alcohol-free subscription boxes so special.

Which Characteristics Do We Look At?

Flavour First

The single most important factor for us is the flavour and drinking experience of the beverage. For alcohol-free spirits the flavour needs to hold strong with various different mixers so that it is versatile yet still delicious. Other alcohol-free beverages need to have an interesting and nuanced flavour, and that needs to hold strong in the way that it is designed to be served.

Flavour includes the flavour profile, but also the mouthfeel of a drink. We aim to select drinks that evoke an emotion or a conversation. Drinks that have an interesting depth of flavour and feel.

Message and Ethos

Larger brands that are already well known and have big budgets are often stocked on the shelves of supermarkets and are easy for anyone to buy. Existing big alcohol brands often only have one alcohol-free drink that people will gravitate towards because they’ve tasted the alcoholic version. These drinks are made with less love and passion. So we aim to find and support the smaller businesses out there that make drinks because of their passion for alcohol-free drinks.  

We want to include products in our JOMO boxes that you have never seen, that you won’t just find on the shelves of your local supermarket. And at the same time we want to represent the one-man distillers, the small businesses and the new alcohol-free brands out there - after all, we know just how hard people in small businesses work. We want to promote brands that are passionate about their alcohol-free products, have created an amazing spirit and really care or notice the difference when we share their product.

Ingredients and sugar

One of the big myths about alcohol-free spirits is that they are high in sugar. Whilst that used to be the case, it no longer is.  So we want to help change the narrative that alcohol-free drinks are filled with sugar. That’s why we support brands that avoid pumping their drinks full of sugar.

Many people reduce their alcohol intake or go sober for health reasons. So we like to partner with and share non-alcoholic spirits that support people’s health. That’s why we love drinks that are low in sugar, are made with quality botanicals, and avoid using artificial ingredients and flavourings. After all, no nasties mean a happy body and mind.

Sustainability

JOMO have worked really hard to make sure that we have the lowest impact on the environment we possibly can. That's why we don’t have any plastic in our boxes and use little paper. We have also carefully selected the delivery using the number one courier for sustainability in the UK. Even our box providers are sustainable. We use a box provider that helps us reduce waste and plant trees for all the boxes printed too. As you can see, sustainability is a priority.

So when we partner with brands we look for brands that have a similar ethos and take sustainability seriously. Many alcohol-free brands are inspired by nature and are therefore very conscious of their impact on the world. An increasing number of alcohol-free brands are now B-Corp certified. This is for businesses that have a level of performance, accountability, and transparency in various aspects of their company such as sustainability and employee benefits. When deciding to partner with a brand we look for this transparency and awareness about sustainability.

Branding

Opening a surprise box for the first time needs to have some element of wow factor. That’s why we look at the appearance and branding of a product. We look for items that can form a cohesive colour scheme or gorgeous brands with interesting designs and packaging.

There is research to suggest that the packaging of an item does actually impact your taste experience of it, and we want JOMO members to have the best taste experience possible.
