Alcohol-Free Drinks to Enjoy Whilst Watching Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Tennis Championship is a tennis tournament filled with traditions. So whether you are there in person, or watching the tournament on TV, you are supposed to enjoy it with strawberries and cream and a glass of Pimms or champagne!

But what if, like Andy Murray, you do not drink alcohol, but you still want to join in the traditions? Then worry not, because below are five summery, Wimbledon-themed alcohol-free cocktails. These non-alcoholic cocktails will keep you refreshed and cool on any summer day, whether you are watching tennis or not!

English Garden - Alcohol-Free Pimms

Over 303,277 glasses of Pimm’s are served at Wimbledon, so no list of Wimbledon-themed, summery alcohol-free drinks would be complete without a non-alcoholic Pimms variant.

Pimms is a classicly English gin-based liqueur. It is the perfect sweet yet slightly bitter-tasting drink to refresh you on a summer's day and has become known as a quintessentially British summer drink. So how can we enjoy it alcohol-free? Well, there are a couple of different options for this as you will see!

Ingredients

To make a jug of Pimms:

  • 200 ml Anon English Garden (an alcohol-free Pimms imitation) or, for a similar taste to Pimms try balsamic vinegar.

  • 600 ml lemonade

  • Dash of orange juice to flavour

  • Sprig of mint

  • Sliced cucumber, orange and strawberries (or other fruit to your liking)

Method

  1. Add ice to a serving jug.

  2. Pour the Anon English Garden or Balsamic Vinegar, orange juice and lemonade over the ice. Stir until chilled.

  3. Add in your sliced fruit and stir.

The great thing about alcohol-free Pimms is that you can play around with the recipe and make infinite different variations. For instance, try adding iced tea, fruit juice, or champagne, for a twist on the classic Pimms drink.

Strawberry Champagne Punch

Wimbledon is famous for serving strawberries and cream. It's a must-have whilst watching the tennis take place. In fact, over 166,055 servings of strawberries and cream are served at Wimbledon each year. So this next alcohol-free cocktail is an ode to Strawberries and cream and champagne, the classic, elegant British summer treats.

Ingredients

To serve 2:

  • A handful of strawberries (the wild ones will taste sweeter)

  • A leaf of mint

  • Alcohol-free champagne or sparkling wine

Method

  1. Wash your strawberries and hull them.

  2. Add the strawberries and mint to a sieve and push them through the grating gently to form a puree. Or for a chunkier strawberry drink, muddle the strawberries and mint together using a fork, spoon or muddler.

  3. Add the strawberry puree to a champagne flute and top with alcohol-free champagne or non-alcoholic sparkling wine.

  4. Garnish with a strawberry on the side of the glass.

Champagne Cocktail

Champagne is another Wimbledon classic. But you won’t just find it at Wimbledon, it is a typical summer drink served at many events from Wimbledon to Chelsea Flower Show, through to smaller events such as weddings. So for a typical summery, alcohol-free drink, to refresh yourself and get into the Wimbledon spirit and feel classy, here is an alcohol-free cocktail based on champagne.

Ingredients

  • 1 sugar cube

  • 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters or non-alcoholic bitters

  • Alcohol-free dry champagne or sparkling wine

Method

  1. Add one sugar cube to a champagne flute.

  2. Soak the cube in 2-3 drops of bitters.

  3. Top the glass with non-alcoholic champagne or alcohol-free sparkling wine.

To add a twist to this drink you can add some lemon or lime juice.

Shandy

For those looking to enjoy tennis in a less fancy way, a typical British Shandy can be a refreshing summer alcohol-free drink. You could call this a “beer-based alcohol-free cocktail”, but that does make it seem a little more than it is. There is nothing fancy about a Shandy, it just makes a delicious and refreshing drink to enjoy in the summer sun.

Ingredients

  • Your favourite alcohol-free beer

  • Lemonade (a lemon or lime soda)

Method

  1. This is the easiest drink to make, simply take a pint glass and add your favourite alcohol-free beer to the halfway mark.

  2. Top this with lemonade. The ratio should be about 50/50 of each drink.

Raspberry, Rhubarb and Gin

Fun fact! Did you know that Robinson's Squash was first created at Wimbledon? It was created all the way back in 1935 when a drink was created to help hydrate the tennis players.

Whilst nowadays the historic partnership between Robinsons and Wimbledon has ended, we still want to pay tribute by providing you with the recipe for a delicious, alcohol-free yet adult-tasting Robinsons Squash-based cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Robinsons Raspberry, Rhubarab & Orange Blossom Fruit Cordial

  • One lime juiced

  • 50ml dry alcohol-free gin - * New London Light First Light, Pentire, Lyre’s London Dry

  • Tonic or soda water

  • Mint leaves

Method

  1. Add the cordial, alcohol-free gin and lime juice to a glass.

  2. Add in your mint leaves and crush them up. Stir everything together.

  3. Add ice to the glass and then top the drink with either tonic or soda water based on your preference.

  4. Garnish with a sprig of mint or some orange blossom.
